Affogato at Home: Become Your Own Barista
The affogato is an Italian classic, with a scoop of ice cream “drowned” in freshly brewed espresso. At illy, where coffee has been perfected for over 90 years using only 100% Pure Arabica beans carefully sourced from the top 1% of Arabica harvests. Affogato becomes more than a dessert. It’s a ritual of indulgence you can easily enjoy at home in the hot and humid weather in Malaysia!

Affogato with illy Instant Coffee Sticks (3g / 1.6g per sachet)
What you need:
1 sachet illy Instant Coffee (3g for a full espresso; 1.6g for a lighter pour)
40–50 ml hot water
1 scoop ice cream of your choice
Steps:
Empty one (3g) or two sachet (1.6g) into a small cup.
Add 40–50 ml of hot (not boiling) water and stir until smooth.
Pour the hot coffee over a scoop of ice cream
Serve immediately with a spoon.
Choose a flavour:
Classico – mild caffeine, smooth with notes of caramel.
Intenso – richer and bolder, for those who love intensity.
Affogato with illy Instant Coffee Can
What you need:
2 teaspoons of instant coffee
40–50 ml hot water
1 scoop ice cream
Steps:
Scoop 2 teaspoons of instant coffee into a cup.
Add hot water and stir.
Pour over your scoop of ice cream.
Choose:
Classico – lighter, smooth indulgence.
Intenso – deeper flavor and higher intensity.
Affogato with illy Ground Coffee
What you need:
2 tablespoons (about 10–12g) illy Ground Coffee
Espresso coffee machine
1 scoop ice cream
Steps (Espresso Coffee Machine):
Fill the portafilter with 2 tablespoons (10–12g) of illy Ground Coffee.
Level and lightly tamp the coffee for an even extraction.
Lock the portafilter into the espresso machine.
Brew a single (30 ml) or double (40 ml) shot of espresso.
Immediately pour the hot espresso over your scoop of ice cream.
Choose:
Classico – smooth and balanced.
Intenso – bold and full-bodied.
Decaffeinato – all the flavor, with slight caffeine.
Affogato with illy Whole Bean Coffee
What you need:
2 tablespoons (10–12g) freshly ground illy Whole Beans
Espresso machine or moka pot
1 scoop ice cream
Steps:
Grind beans with a coffee bean grinder to a fine consistency for espresso, or medium for moka pot.
Brew a 30 ml espresso shot (single) or 40 ml for stronger pour.
Pour immediately over the prepared ice cream.
Choose:
Classico – caramel sweetness, smooth finish.
Intenso – deep and bold.
Decaffeinato – for guilt-free evenings.
Arabica Selection:
Brasile – notes of caramel and chocolate.
Guatemala – complex, honeyed sweetness.
Colombia – fruity, balanced.
Affogato with illy Iperespresso Capsules
What you need:
1 or 2 Iperespresso capsule & a Y3.3 or X7.1 Iperespresso machine
1 scoop ice cream
Steps:
Use 2 capsules to brew in our Y3.3 or X7.1 Iperespresso Machine
Brew 30 ml espresso shot from our Iperespresso machine
Pour over prepared ice cream.
With Y3.3 or X7.1 Iperespresso Machine:
Classico, Intenso, Lungo or Decaffeinato capsule.
Arabica Selection capsules: Brasile, Etiopia, Colombia.
